The FMD five day meal plan
It has been well publicised that research has recently ‘caught up’ with the ancient practice of fasting, with growing evidence of reduced risks for cancer, diabetes, dementia and overall increases in longevity.
The snag? Fasting can be tough...
To remedy this, Professor Valter Longo of USC has spent a lifetime calibrating and researching a diet with many benefits of fasting – cellular clean up (autophagy), reduced inflammation and improved metabolic markers – without the pain of fully abstaining from food.
The result is the Fasting-Mimicking Diet (FMD), a five day diet high in unsaturated fats and low in calories, protein and carbs. Although the diet is very ‘doable’, online FMD recipes can dull and flavourless.
The answer?
I offer a full menu of nutritious, home-cooked and ‘compliant’ meals (see the menu here) - so they're ready in the fridge to make your FMD week tastier, more sustainable and easier.
As well as being delicious and nutritious, during the five days you won't need to shop, weigh ingredients or cook. I've created and tested a five day FMD menu with two different fresh meals and a snack each day. So you can do the FMD at home knowing the right meals are in the fridge ready and waiting.
You can also buy the menu for anyone else in your family not on FMD - it's easy to add extra protein and/or carbs to any of the meals - so you can still order for everyone if you'd like. I can send you ideas for this, just let me know at charlie@suppersub.com
The next FMD menu will be ready on 11th January for collection from SN14 8AX or delivery to your door nationwide to arrive on 11th January. So you can start FMD 12th to 16th January.

If you'd like more information on the science behind this, two sources are:
- About the Japanese cell biologist Yoshinori Ohsumi who won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2016 for his research on how cells recycle and renew their content; a process called autophagy.
- About Valter Longo who is credited with developing the Fast Mimicking Diet (FMD) upon which this menu is based.
Disclaimer: I am not an diet expert, a nutritionist or a doctor. Just a chef who has devised tastier meals to go with FMD following its 'rules'. Please seek your own medical advice if you need to before committing to FMD.
